The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is located within Metro Manila, so traveling from here to other parts of the easy should be easy, in theory. However, the chronic traffic congestion problems make it much, much harder in practice.

Fortunately, there are now more options to get out of the airport. The past couple of years saw the rise of point-to-point (P2P) buses, more comfortable than the regular ones ferrying passengers to some key districts without making any stops along the way. Today, there are now P2P bus operations from NAIA to Cubao, Ortigas, Alabang, and even Laguna and Clark.

However, there are instances when the bus isn’t the best choice. The number of P2P destinations is still very limited. If you’re going somewhere far from the designated stops, you’re gonna have to make one or more transfers.

In cases like that, I usually use GRAB, a ride-sharing app. However, even that isn’t always reliable. These days, it’s getting more difficult to book a ride because of the sheer volume of users and limited number of units. If that still does not work, I consider taking a cab.

The taxi is a good option for those who have multiple heavy bags in tow, which can make making a transfer a lot more challenging. It’s also great for groups, who can split the fare among themselves.

At NAIA Terminal 1, 2, 3 or 4, there are 2 main types of taxis:

• Yellow Taxi, which uses the meter at almost double the regular rates
• Coupon Taxi, blue-marked white cab which has a fixed rate depending on the destination.

If you’re interested in a coupon taxi service, just make your way on foot to the dispatch station positioned across the Arrival Hall Exit. It’s easy to spot because it’s usually marked by a huge sign that reads COUPON TAXI. At the station, the staff will hand you a coupon, which you should keep until you reach the destination.

IMPORTANT! DO NOT entertain anyone offering taxi service as you exit the building or as you walk around, even if they claim they are accredited by NAIA. They’re usually scammers who will charge you much higher than normal.
